St. Louis B-3 trucks that were used on some late model PCC cars were modified design Clark B-2 trucks for improved operation on open track. SF Muni "torpedos" were built with B-3 trucks.

Pittsburgh Railways among others used them with few problems on suburban lines with open track. PCC cars use the motor resistors to supply interior heat for cars in the winter. The long runs between stations in Pittsburgh did not use the motor resistors long enough to keep the cars warm so Pittsburgh had to install separate heaters.
