A steam relic: Ride it while you can!

The future is still uncertain whether the last coal-fired American steamship on the Great Lakes, the SS Badger, will operate next year. There is a proposal to convert it to natural gas or some other fuel. I think the Lake Michigan Carferry Company had a waiver to operate this year (2012).
I made my first round trip on the former C&O car ferry in mid-June. My wife and rode the 1 AM deparure from Manitowoc, WI and returned that day on the 8 or 9 AM trip from Ludington, MI. It was enough time aboard to warrant getting a stateroom with berths. Quite the nostalgia trip!
I'm glad I did not put this off until it was too late.
