Simpson Timber Company's "Green Diamond Resource Company" (holder of the former Arcata Redwood and LP properties) recently changed its name to "California Redwood Company." Guess that's just the dust settling?
PALCO's Bankrupcy Reorganization Plan calls for selling off large parcels of timberland for 160 acre "ranchettes" to the new rich who wish to escape what they have helped create elsewhere or anybody who can afford to get away from everbody. These parcels would be adjacent to conservation zones, parcels hopefully sold to private or public preservation entities that contain significant old growth in selective cut areas. Apparently these parcels are still "pretty enough" to be called ancient forests and will compliment the upscale estates to be built nearby. The remaining lands will be used for future timber production. It's caused quite a stir behind the Redwood Curtain which can be read in the archives of The Times Standard and The Eureka Reporter. Looks like a new crop of Nimbys on the horizon?
Accidently noticed NCRA/NWP is not a member of the "California Shortline Railroad Association."
Seems all the other players are. Curious? Must mean they don't need the support, or somebody just forgot?
