The energy consumption compared to twenty five years ago is different. Remembering the microwave oven big enough to cook a 16 lb turkey? Those things used soooooo much energy. I remember mine had a dial, and always made the lights in the kitchen humm when it was on full power.


I think that the most imortant thing (other than the saving earth thing) is where your power comes from. If there were some kind of world shortage, imagine the horror of all the soccer mom SUV's wanting to fill 'er up, and some other country holding your energy hostage. indeed the USA is not fully ready to give up their Chevy Suburbans, but every little thing done to conserve buys you time. Coal will help in the short term only.
