I didnt read the article cited here but in the May 2007 cover story about the WP&Y it stated that they originally hauled about 34,000 tourists a year when they began the excursions in 1992. They hauled 450,000 in 2006 and anticipated breaking the 500,000 mark in 2007. We rode in July 2007 and I am sure they probably hit the mark. Very efficiently done with multiple trains meeting the cruise ships right at the dock etc. They were also expanding some of the trips to White Cross ?
At any rate, a most successful operation. They told us the population of Skagway is about 800 during the year but grows to about 1200 and most everyone is somehow involved with the railroad and the tourists.
