Probably spend it wondering why it was allowed when the SP-SF merger a decade earlier was denied. (There were much bettern competitave measures in-place as far as access to SPSF-only corridors that were set to be enacted the following day. I was working in a UP Western Regional office on SPSF-denial day--they were not happy.) The irony is that they ended up with it (the SP part) later anyway.
BTW--anybody who has lived through a UP "merger" knows that it doesn't even closely resemble the Webster's definition of the word. It is an "assimilation". Regardless of the top MOP officials that ascended the UP ranks following that 1982 merger, what is still its name, what are still it's colors, where is still it's headquarters???
