Yes, please do. Maybe they didn't know that if they were facing long periods of furlough, employment in other types of work might've been a better option for them.
In a related sujbect, Union Pacific is doing something unusual in their Roseville Service Unit, where there's currently a glut of trainmen - and they're still hiring. Instead of furloughing unneeded employes, the railroad has been placing them on training boards. Jobs that normally have two trainmen under existing CBAs now often have three or four. How much longer that'll last is anyone's guess, likely until the budget numbers change. Additionally, last July UP sent 30 "borrow-out" trainmen from the RVSU to the Houston Service Unit, where there's been a chronic shortage of new trainmen, apparently because better, higher-paying non-railroad jobs are available in the Gulf Coast area. Part of the deal is that the "borrow-outs" receive well over 200% of the daily pay they'd receive if they were still working in the RVSU, plus that's potentially 30 junior trainmen that aren't furloughed.
