There are two ways of doing subsidies.

1. Give money to humans (specified here because corporations are people, too) and make (any) industry work to get it from them.

2. Give the money directly to industry and save them the effort of having to get it from people. Eliminating human involvement is the most efficient way of subsidizing corporations, and efficiency is important in these times.
