Well-known pilot and aircraft rebuilder Bob Odegaard of Kindred, ND was killed on September 7 in the crash of Race 74, his F2G Super Corsair while practicing for an upcoming airshow.
Born in 1946, Bob spent his life around aviation and passed that on to his three children as well as many others who were students of his.
I met him briefly in Oshkosh, WI in 2008 at AirVenture. One of the 2 aircraft that were highest on my list to see up close was his Corsair, the only one flying in the world then. He had a lot of people wanting to talk with him, but took the time to thank me for a photo that I had given him. He followed that up by inviting me to sit in Race 57, something I'll always remember. Bob took Race 57 to Reno that year, my son & I saw here fly there. She was sold to a collector, so Bob found another F2G and rebuilt it!
A real loss to the aviation community and mankind in general.
