Ah yes, the pod people cometh. With a visionary technology that is always new and revolutionary, and just needs a little more research money from taxpayers to make it work?
And, the government shouldn't waste the taxpayers money on "1960's" technology like HSR. Instead, all of the taxpayers money should be spent on "research" on the myriad of conceptual pod systems, all of which have a well proven track record of operating costs, engineering costs, competitive procurement, and a project history of clear cost and performance advantage, right?
Thirty minutes LAX-SFO-for a mere $6 billion is pretty amazing. So, with this travel time, and that projected cost, how come you need more research dollars? This would produce a phenomenal return on that investment and shouldn't need public funds at all? This sounds an awful lot like SCAG's purported 27% return on investment nonsense about MagLev a few years back. When this economist heard that, my first question was, where are the private investors, and my second was, why do they need government funds with a 27% return? Well, it's because it was just bull$@%t, as usual.
And, some people didn't think my Rosanna Rosannadanna comparison didn't fit today?
