Umm, let's see now. SF to LA is, give or take, 400 miles, so if we do the journey in 30 minutes that's 800 miles per hour, while the speed of sound at sea level is -- what? 762 mph? So the system breaks the sound barrier the whole way? Assuming it doesn't stop at Palmdale.
It's also odd that Musk complains that the CHSR train would be the world's slowest. Actually, it's so fast it's unbelievable. We're told SF-LA, 435 miles, in 2h 36m. The fastest train in Europe, I think, is Paris-Avignon, 403 miles, in 2h 43m, a bit slower. But the French train doesn't have to cross two mountain ranges on the way.
