While Drew and I rarely if ever agree on anything, we are both natives of San Jose and have spent many years going to Santa Cruz "to the beach" and we are very familiar with the evolution of Santa Cruz from beach/boardwalk to University of California campus with all the attendant multiple views of life and politics, with the advent of the hippies who are still resident, aging and growing, buying and selling----nothing is ever simple in the People's Republic of Cruz and we say that with some love------and I am a UC Berkeley grad and we set the standards for campus unrest which they inherited and have used-----:-) This railroad thing is fraught with a convoluted history involving the UP,Sierra Pacific and now the Iowa bunch, and of course the BIg Trees which is a player as well. There are several camps and factions in Cruz involved in this and it isn't easy to get a scorecard, program, cast of characters and etc. to make sense of it. SO they first announced a special event for this Tuesday (I think it was the 9th) and then someone reminded them of some technical issues regarding regulations, safety issues, etc and so what was originally supposed to be for a select cast of invitees, is now a tentative open to the public event on November 17th, giving everyone time to get into compliance with whatever they need to comply with etc. etc. Things seem to change with great frequency so when I start alluding to the prevalence of agricultural substances in their planning, there is "history", so to speak.
Let's see what actually transpires on Nov. 17-------or whatever other date shows up as the plans advance. :-) If you've never been to Santa Cruz, you won't completely understand!
