Irrational fear? As opposed to rational fear? Rational or not, I will be damned if I am going to end up in any situation where a firearm would be of help and not have one. As for calling 911---yeah right. No cell service up there and I never saw one cop.
At 66, slowed by several injuries, and carry several thousand dollars worth of photographic equipment a little caution is more than prudent. Call it what you want, but I intend to survive.
