When 4449 powered the Worlds' Fair Daylight South thru Bakersfield in 1984, Doyle did use the air horn @ Sumner St. xing. My friends caught it on video. I asked Doyle about using the air horn while at Winterail several years ago. He said most engineers preferred using the air horn, as it was activated by a button right next to the engineer's seat, and did not require reaching or standing up. Of course nowadays everyone wants to hear the steam whistle.
