I think Mr. Lydon's brochure is a tad misleading in that he features a prominent photo of the SP4449 as if it were leading the train that is coming to the branch. Not only did that engine not ever turn a wheel on the Santa Cruz branch, the likelihood of the 4449 ever getting anywhere near the Santa Cruz branch in the future is on a par with hell buried beneath miles of ice. We just rode the Deschutes special behind the SP 4449 from Portland to Bend and back a couple of weeks ago and I know whereof I speak. Highly unlikely that this beautiful engine will ever make it south of the Oregon border again. However, nice to see that his hop on hop off tour is back on the schedule since it was cancelled earlier in the year.
