Mental midgets on the UP @ Elkhorn Slough (long)

Today while traveling south from Watsonville to Salinas (yes, in California) I decided to take the long way via Elkhorn Rd and Castroville. Going this way allows you to follow a good chunk of the ex-SP Coast Line southward from Watsonville. I decided to stop at the parking area on Kirby Rd which is right along Elkhorn Slough. Well, two mental midgets (man, woman and their unleashed dog) decided to walk south from the parking area ON THE TRACKS. I knew Amtrak #12 couldn't be too far away but since my scanner was dead I really didn't know for sure. After about 10 minutes along comes the UP Roadmaster hi-railing the main line. He sees the two people and comes to a stop. He honks at them but they were completely oblivious to his honking as they walked south. Finally one of them turned around and saw the hi-railer. He pulled up to them and stopped. I'm sure he didn't tell them thanks for visiting and have a nice day. After two minutes he continued south. So do you think these people then turned around and went back to the parking area? Nope. They continued walking south ON THE TRACKS! For an additional 30 minutes they meandered along the tracks before heading back to the parking lot. I was hoping the county sheriff had been called to issue trespassing citations to these idiots but none showed up during the 40 minutes I was there. I had to get going to Salinas but just as I left they finally got off the tracks. Luckily Amtrak #12 hadn't been through yet or these fools might have been front page news. Sorry no camera either. Next time I'll make sure I have camera in hand in case I ever see this again. People never cease to amaze me.
