To confirm your message, Union Pacific does indeed plan to use the old Katy bridge in Boonville to cross the "Osage" river east of Jefferson City, MO. The Osage river crossing is single track as of right now, (the Merrimac river crossing is double track). UP has been planning this for at least 4-5 years and has put the project on hold until a final decision is made on the Boonville bridge. From what I hear UP would save about 10 million dollars in steel by reusing the bridge. Quite a bit of change. But of course the historical aspect of the bridge is priceless.
