UNCONFIRMED RUMOR has it that these cars are old ex-CNW/Metra gallery cars. Aledgedly, they are currenly being completely gutted inside at that Passenger Car Shop in Wisconsin (I can't think of the name of it right now) and will be rebuilt, kind of similar to the Transisco Ex-SP gallery cars were in the late 1980s. However, they will keep the same window arrangement, that to me, seems not right, they are too small for a train such as this. Also, aledgedly, there will be a spur track built to the (compass) East of the UP main, just (compass) South of the Union Plaza Hotel to accomodate the train, complete with a power switch and controlled signals, that UP Dispatcher 7 will control. There is still much more to see regarding this whole thing, I'll believe it when I see it myself. Train is to run under contract with Amtrak, as they will provide the motive power and train crews. I wish X Train the best of luck on all this, as Pacific Railroad Society TRIED to put together a 2 day special train to Las Vegas that would have run next April, but with the cost of Hotels, Busses, Insurance, and a few surcharges, the minimun round trip ticket price weekend package per person was going to be $500.00! The club (PRS) felt this uneconomical to charge and run, so they dropped the plan to do it. But, if this is the closest to returning ANY Passenger Service to Las Vegas, I say, Bring it on, it is worth a try. If this thing gets off the ground, it will be interesting to see how long it lasts! Anyone out here remember the Big Easy Steam Train that ran out of Belle Chase, LA in 2000 and 2001? It ran about 5 months, wasn't making the money the investors had been promissed and they ordered it be shut down. It hasn't been done since. Operate Safely.
