As far as the high speed train between Victorville and Las Vegas, it will be years, many years before it ever gets going, if ever! I also have a hard time with people who are NOT near Victorville who would drive up there from the LA Basin to get on this thing. I think they will take the stand that if they have to drive that distance, they'll just stay on the road and continue on to Las Vegas in their vehicle, no matter what the traffic is like!
As far as the age on the ex-Commuter Cars go, or any other cars go for that matter, if you sink the proper money into them and maintain them, they will go and go and go. Look at the Heritage Passenger Car Fleets of the major railroads out there, they maintain them, they are old and they just go and go and go. Look at some of the Heavywheight Private Cars out here, such as the Georgia 300, it is maintained in like new condition, I have never heard of it breaking down on the road. So again, the age of the equipment is not the issue, equipment is going to break down no matter what age it is, especially if you don't maintain it. For an example, think back to the days when SP was still in existence! 'Nuff said.
