I think that there were 32 Niagaras built for the NdeM. One made it to the US before
the Mexican gov't. became impossible to deal with and even reneged on some previously
agreed upon deals.
To answer your question, while I don't have engines numbers handy, I'd guess and say that
may 8 or so or these were saved. I saw 4-5 from the train when we passed the boneyard
at Huehuetoca in March of 1982. Very light design for a 4-8-4...70" drivers, 250 lb. blr.,
and a t.e. of around 55,000 lbs.
