Why is everyone referring to one of Chard Walker's books as "the Brown Cover book" instead of identifying it by its name, "Cajon, Rail Passage to the Pacific?" Strange.
This book is not really a "second edition" of his earlier book, "Railroading Through Cajon Pass."
The Jack Whitmeyer Collection has two photos of the 5th St. tower that can be seen on-line plus copies can be ordered. Do a search for "Jack Whitmeyer Collection." Also in the collection are a photo of the wooden water tank at Mentone and the depot at Highland.
A Jack Whitmeyer color slide that shows the 5th St. tower can be found on Ted York's Cajon Pass website. Go to the Photo Album section; from there, go to The Historical Cajon section.
Harre Demoro took numerous photos of Santa Fe depots in Southern California in the early 1940s.
Ken Meeker of Stockton purchased the collection and sold prints made from the original negatives at Winterail each year. However, Ken Meeker has been ill for several years. Prints that he had already made were still being sold at the last Winterail but no new prints are coming as far as I know, so many of Harre Demoro's photos are not presently available.
One possible contact is Phil Serpico, co-author (with Lee Gustafson) of "Coast Lines Depots, Los Angeles Division." He can be reached though his website, Omni Publications.
Don't forget about the Cajon Pass Discussion Group.
The Cedco 1991 "Red Cars Yellow Cars" calendar had a Chard Walker color photo that shows the I Street tower at the PE/Santa Fe crossing on the Redlands Loop.
