Oddly enough, Moyers began his railroad career on the IC, as a track department worker, then became a Roadmaster, then proved the truth of the Peter Principal by becoming a Division Supt., a lousy one at that. "Red" and his "Mississippi Mafia" cohorts wreaked all manner of calamities on the ICG long before he ever got into a position where he could single-track the Illinois mainline.
He was a one-trick pony. All he ever knew was to tear out and scrap to provide a quick boost to earnings, then move on before the conseqences came home to roost. Planning or thinking ahead or using "what if?" as a strategy for planning for the future was totally unknown. He and his buds were determined that rail traffic was on an endless slide, there would never be any growth to worry about, so why not disinvest in the physical plant and make a lot of money quickly?
He was out of his league when he was a Roadmaster.
