Very convoluted legal case. Big difference between the SP/physician relationship and the Kaiser/physician--Permanente Medical Group---is that the docs are NOT employees of Kaiser Hospitals and Health Plan which is a non-profit. The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG) is a private FOR PROFIT corporation which contracts with Kaiser Hospitals and Health Plan to provide the care, and they do it exclusively. Very interesting relationship with the two entities having each other by the gonads so to speak. :-)
