Portola Santa Trains Cancelled for 2007

The Board of Directors of the Feather River Rail Society, the operating organization of the Western Pacific Railroad Museum at Portola, regrets to announce the cancellation of Santa Trains for this year.
Being open only 7 months out of the year, the Museum relies on financial reserves from the funds raised during its operating season to carry it through the winter months when the Museum closes to the public. At its November meeting, the FRRS Board concluded that the Museum’s reserves for the winter 2007-2008 season were not sufficient to cover the staging of this event.
We, like everyone else, are finding it increasingly challenging to keep up with the skyrocketing cost of energy. Due primarily to these increased costs, the financial drain of the annual Santa Trains, which have been a free event with complimentary rides and refreshments, has become harder to absorb.
The FRRS has formed a committee to begin advance planning aimed at bringing Santa Trains back for the 2008 Christmas season in a manner that is fiscally viable for the organization. It is our sincere hope that, through this committee’s work, this wonderful holiday event will return next year.

The Feather River Rail Society (FRRS) is a non-profit, public benefit California corporation founded to operate the Western Pacific Railroad Museum at Portola, California. The organization relies on donations and a variety of fundraising activities to achieve its goals of collecting, preserving, and restoring railroad equipment and property of historical significance with particular emphasis on the former Western Pacific Railroad.
