UDE's causing derailments?

Derailments cause UDE's all the time (obviously) but what about the other way around?

Oldheads used to warn me of the dangers, saying that uneven braking forces, caused by cars with misadjusted brakes, loads with control valves cut out pushing on empties ahead, poor train makeup, that sort of thing can cause a derailment when you go into emergency at speed.

Sounds totally plausible except I've never, not once, heard of a derailment happening this way and blamed solely on a UDE.

Thoughts?
