The shop boss, Chris DeWitt, has been in this business for most of his life and is recognized as one of the best. He has some talented and motivated employees and volunteers who are both knowledgeable and willing to learn. One of the restoration specialist, Rick Stiver, has been working with Chris for a couple decades. There is nothing easy about working on old railroad equipment. Even the research before getting started is difficult. Fortunately, there is an extensive network of those involved in the restoration and maintenance of steam locomotives and old railroad equipment. Information is shared willingly(for the most part). One of the biggest problems faced by programs such as this is to attract young people who are willing to put in the time to become proficient in this limited field. The work is hard and the pay is not necessarily commensurate. We owe these people a great deal of respect for keeping this valuable tradition alive.
