To stay on topic: what would really stop this boondoggle in its
tracks would be for a consistent long-term protest by many,
many people. Our financial health is at stake if HSR as we
now know it goes forward, in spite of the provision in Prop 1A
that makes using any public monies for subsidies ILLEGAL.
Whether this will ever be enforced is unknown.
HSR In its present form, all it is is just welfare
for the very rich -- transferring lots of our hard-earned
taxes from the bank accounts of one group of wealthy
people to the bank accounts of another group of
wealthy people. NOT a conspiracy -- just "business as
usual".
I say, "Take the rich off welfare!"
What we need is a vastly expanded system of passenger
trains, both short and long-distance, with excellent bus and
shuttle feeder services. Some of these trains should go faster
tahn the 79 mph max, but just providing many more trains
would be a very good thing. Yes, more rail must be laid, for
it does not work to mix short, fast trains with long, slow trains.
Re: GG1 max possible speed: Rats! Now we'll never know
how fast one of those babies could go! Rats!
