This would have about around 1966-69. I am trying to remember right but my recollecton is my asking Charlie what the hell is going on with this BART broad gauge nonsense and Charlie just smiled that knowing smile and said "SP".
There were apparently two Bechtels on the SP Board.
My understanding of the Quantm route proposal and re-studied by PB is crossing at grade of both San Andreas and Garlock faults. Two six mile tunnels and ok curves if they can take the single best route, in the general area of the proposed gold course, which naturally the Tejon Ranch Co. opposes. The PB engineers were bald-faced instructed not to look at the best route because Team Tejon had embargoed it. Really sucks for the taxpayers, especially the CHSRA has no problem slapping eminent domain on almond growers along 99.
This thing just reeks of corruption, right up with the worst scandals of the past. Right out of "Chinatown".
