And god help us if we had to pay airline ticket costs that were based on a true cost to operate. Hmmm, SF - LA round trip, maybe five or six hundred clams?

What's really needed is a dedicated commitment to making rail travel work. As it stands, the only thing keeping Amtrak alive is that no politician wants to be the one known for killing rail passenger service in his/her district.
