What is apparent in the California Bond fight is that it is in danger of becoming a giant political trough slopping contest. The Governator and Nunez's bi-partisan raid on tranist funding in this years budget has already delayed projects that are shelf ready and have been in planning for years, including such things as 10 or more major grade separation projects, RCTC's Perris line (now 2011), Gold Line San Gabriel Valley extension, LOSSAN anc Commuter Rail cars. Now the bonds are being protected by Bay Area politicos, who seem to go to bat for more than their share, while SouCal politicos generally fail to protect that regions interest.
The Federal case for transit and freight funding in SouCal is even more hideous, with our Congressional delegation bringing back less than 20% of the per capita funding that other regions of the country have been getting for transit and freight projects. This only costs the SouCal economy jobs, billions of dollars in traffic congestion, and hundreds of thousands of hours of time wasted from business to family life daily.
Heckuva a job our political "leaders" are doing?
