UP "Z" Trains

While going through some slides from the late 90s, I see that I had labeled slides of UP trains, with the "Z" designation as either a prefix, or as a suffix. For instance ZSELA, for the Seattle- L.A. pig, but CSPDZ for Canal Street-Portland. Was UP itself completely consistent with the naming conventions in that era?
