Seattle Waterfront Streetcar voltage

The substation near the North Portal is streetcar 600 volts. We didn't want to take any chances with the elderly Melbourne cars.

See if you can find the parallel positive feeder under the viaduct.

Suggest studying the Main Street trolley coach crossings of the streetcar. That was fun.

For streetcar purists, we built the curves at each end of Main Street to streetcar standard. Randy Anderson, who learned the trade at IRM, told me how to do it; with trolley coach hardware. Contrasted to the curves at the passing loops which are trolley coach standard; minimized visual pollution in two very public places, and less expensive. Mel LaBoyne was my adviser from the operating side.

Yes, the streetcars have trolley coach swivel current collectors.
