SDG&E took 20% of the nuclear plant's output. The part of Orange County mentioned is the SDG&E service area. SDG&E built the 'Sunsise Power Link' over the bodies of many Nimbys. If things went badly SCE might not play nicley and share with the south. SDG&E has said there is power to go around this summer inspite of being turned down to build two peaker plants recently. PUC feels SDG&E is too pesimistic. SDG&E is a partner in San Onofre but it appears SCE is taking all the heat for good/bad decisions leading up to this shutdown.
I guess track circuits, signal, & crossings still have batteries, just not the old concrete housed/steel topped ones I remember from the good old days.
