It appears to me that the trajectory of the bicycle is about 150-200 feet back of the train's nose in the picture. At probable speeds around that curve, the cab passed that trajectory about five seconds before the bike did. The crew never saw him.
And if the dude messed up and hit the train, the crew probably still would have never known. They would've just kept on truckin', probably with 200 or more trailing axles grinding up what was left of the dude! They'd likely never ever know, unless some investigator was able to track down all the cars that had passed by, visited all of them, and found pieces parts of him on one of 'em. And that of course, is only if there was a known reason to look. Damn unlikely!
As to women being attracted to risk takers - Well not exactly:
Only the stupid ones go for this sort of stupid meaningless risk taking - making them indeed a matched pair - and neither of them long for this world.
The fittest (more intelligent) women are attracted only to risk taking that is specifically on their behalf, and successful!
