The CP and LT caboose reconstruction project is moving along nicely at Shingle Springs CA. The caboose is being reconstructed by a consortium of the El Dorado County Historical Museum and Gold Country Woodcrafters for exhibit and use within the El Dorado County Historical Railroad Park(El Dorado Western Railroad). This caboose appears to have been built by the car shop at the Mich-Cal mill at Camino CA using parts from an earlier boxcar/caboose, and was in service until the late 1950's,when it then became a child's playhouse at a home near Shingle Springs CA. To date, the caboose has been taken apart down to the center frame; the wood deck, walls, roof, and exterior siding installed, and all metal parts repaired or fabricated. A news story and photo's can be seen thru a link on the El Dorado Western Railroad Facebook.
