Steve,
Both the longtime BN and UP agents from Moscow are still in town and doing well. Leo Condota retired off the BN and Frank Schnieder from the UP. I often get together with them for coffee and pump them for stories. They love it. Both are in their 90's but doing well.
A short story about Leo that set me back one time. I was showing him some photos of the SP&S 700 when it had run across Montana on it's Montana by Steam trip. It looked great in that natural "NP background" where Leo had grown up as a kid. His father was a section foreman at Blossburg and at Desmit so he knew where about every photo was taken. We talked for a while and he finally said...."I remember when they were NEW!!" And he did. He recalls the word was passed to be on the lookout for the big new A class passenger engines that would be pulling the North Coast Limited.
That was very cool for me. I had been looking at the engine as an antique and here in front of me was a guy who remembered them as state of the art power.
