844 Mars Light

I saw a video on the Union Pacific web site that showed the 844 preparing for the Roundup Specials. They were talking about the removal of the Mars light over the winter but the video from earlier this year shows it still above the headlight. Can anyone shed light on why it was removed? I know it wasn't really used in the modern era.
