I have sad news to report to everyone. I just received the following notification that railroad author, WRM Board Member and all around great guy "Walter Rice" passed away this morning.. Here is the family's announcement:

Sad news from San Luis Obispo: Walter Rice passed away early this morning in his sleep. Many friends have kept the house buzzing with the voices of many who will miss him. Anne Stubbs, Janie, Stu, Sylvia and Howard had been with Laurie through the early morning, helping deal with the sheriff and mortuary people. Gordon and his wife and their two dogs arrived around 10 this morning and Clifford, Tamra, Mitch and their pup arrived a little after noon. The phone has hardly stopped ringing. Thank you for all the wonderful thoughts and messages.
Arrangements have been made for a service and burial at Los Osos Valley Cemetery at 10:00am on Monday December 17, 2007. In Lieu of Flowers, please consider a donation of a dairy goat through heifer.org, (http://www.heifer.org/site/c.edJRKQNiFiG/b.2529663/) or the Western Railway Museum in Suisun City
or your favorite charity.
Walter will be missed by all of us.

Note: Walter had co-authored: "When Steam Ran in the Streets of San Francisco" and "Key System: San Francisco and the Eastshore Empire" among others.
He will be sadly missed !!
