The CTA did the same thing in its subways. Short segments of wood under the rail at appropriate spacing, with a longer piece of wood where the 3rd rail insulator would go. The rest is poured concrete.
CTA did the same thing on the O'Hare Extension. Under the O'Hare tunnel, the entire roadbed is concrete The Pandrol fasteners are mounted directly in the concrete pour, no timber involved at all.
