>The June 1997 vote (the first one after the UP-SP merger) failed to pass by 7 votes. Prior to the merger, SP's dispatchers were unionized, UP and MoP's weren't. Or so I've been told by current and former dispatchers.
To clarify for our readers: for an A-card election (a union representation election) to proceed to the stage of counting the ballots, 50% + one of those mailed out must be returned before any are opened for counting. The number of ballots returned was 5 (or 7) short of that 50% + 1 figure, so none of the ballots were opened, and the election was deemed to have been "lost". IOW, no union representation for the DSs. It was C.V Monin, former BLE President who told me about being "5 ballots short".

Criminal activities? Be specific and name some. Can't? You're just blowing smoke out your a**.
From first-hand reports of the situation at the BNSF-UP combined dispatching center at Ft Worth, the BNSF dispatchers, being unionized, are relaxed and relatively low-key; the UP ones, on the other hand who aren't unionized are tense and keyed up all the time because they're constantly afraid for their jobs. So if what you say is true, then why are the UP dispatchers interested in unionizing? Why don't you put your job where your mouth is and go work for a non-unionized railroad. You wouldn't last very long, so get a life, wake up, and smell the coffee.
