Unless you can find it in the contract, it's probably not very easily confirmed, as it is, as you yourself noted, an "urban legend" (Definition: An apocryphal, secondhand story told as true and just plausible enough to be believed, about some horrific, embarrassing, ironic, or exasperating series of events that supposedly happened to a real person.).
But, as I noted above, we can always count on some folks to propagate these stories, regardless of any facts, as long as it seems to support whatever conspiracy theory one wants to believe.
Conjectures are put forth to test assumptions and determine the facts. As the facts accumulate we may need to reject some conjectures, and test others that make more sense, and are better supported by the facts. The "true believer", as Eric Hoffer noted, has no need to test their "truths".
As Joe Friday used to say: "Just the facts mam."
