You are right! Humboldt County has pretty much trashed its past for the 50 years. The cities and County never really had the means to support it, except lip service. Even the timber industry never really supported it. NCRA and the remains of the lumber economy had too many other fights to occupy their time and resources. Even the California State Parks backed away about 20 years ago for a number political reasons. They did not want to run another railroad museum. They already have two.
So where is this timber heritage museum??
While everybody in Humboldt County was fighting among themselves the Mendocino County Museum and The Roots of Motive Power were building their own museum. That's probably where all the Humboldt County artifacts and equipment are going to go anyway. Millions have already been spent on an interpretive facility and restoration shop. They actually have some place to run their equipment. With the Skunk nearby a lot of tourist dollars will never reach Humboldt Bay.
Humboldt Bay history will continue to be carted away piece by piece.
