The Portland Tribune has at least twice been voted the "best local newspaper" (by whom I'm not sure) and is an excellent source of local "behind the scenes" reporting by some very well known and inquisitive reporters who have lately been good at getting to the bottom of the truth in local government scandals.
By coincidence, the Tribune and several other local community newspapers are owned by the Robert Pamplin family who also own several textile manufacturing operations in the south, several local radio stations and Christian Supply stores. Mr. Pamplin, a philanthropist who recently donated fifty acres of land to the City of Portland for a wildlife refuge, also happens to own ROSS ISLAND SAND AND GRAVEL COMPANY, a local producer of sand, gravel and ready mix concrete and K. F. JACOBSEN CO., a medium sized paving contractor whose operations and plants are less than a mile from the proposed ORHF site.
Hint! Hint! (Get the drift? They may be able to offer substantial philanthropic assistance to ORHF once the building process gets started!)
