A fresh spin on the NIMBYs and development alongside railroads we've discussed previously. Today's Coeur d'Alene Press reports on a condo/beach resort that someone has proposed for Trestle Creek, Idaho. Anyone who has railfanned MRL west of the Montana/Idaho line knows where this is. Narrow chunk of land squeezed between the north shore of Lake Pend Oreille and MRL's ex-NP main line. CdA Press story says MRL "is expressing apprehension at the prospect of a large development going in next to its railroad tracks, which motorists must ford using at-grade crossings." It also says MRL "warned in a June 2007 letter that new residents might be 'surprised and disillusioned when they experience the inherent nuisances related to living next to an active rail line.'" Buyer beware.
