The situation Bill observed yesterday has been pretty much the norm for weeks. BNSF continues to have major backups east and west of the Spokane/Yardley/Hauser terminal area. Tonight is shaping up the same as it's been all week. UP trains being told there's no immediate room for them on BNSF trackage between Fish Lake and Napa Street. Which results in southbound UPs cutting crossings until they can move, and the domino effect of more UPs stacking up behind those, crews getting short or dead on hours. Likewise for BNSF trains. As was mentioned previously, lack of crew shuttles is also an issue, compounded by the number of dead crews needing to be picked up further away from home (which consumes more driver hours with fewer crew moves), unavailability of fresh crews to be placed on those dead trains, etc. Oh, and there's that small business, once again, of a very late Amtrak 7 heading our way across Montana tonight, which means a pre-dawn trip through the cloggage of the Funnel, with rails under stress from sub-zero windchill.
