I cannot comment on the Oregon part of your story. However, steam left the Monterey Branch in 1955 or 1956. There was a steam trip with the 2476 on the Branch in May or June, 1956, and the 2475 operated over the branch on December 31, 1957 and January 1, 1958. I am not aware of any other steam activity on that branch after 1956.
