Sir Chas (whoever you may be)...
One of the final excursions on the Monterey Branch is featured on the Greg Scholl video (SP STEAM FANTRIPS):
The California Nevada Railroad Historical Society (Cal-Nevada) sponsored an excursion from Oakland to Monterey, CA on March 29, 1953. There were three engine changes, with Pacific 2411 handling Oakland to San Jose, 4-10-2 5011 from San Jose to Watsonville Jct., and ten wheeler 2375 from there to Monterey. Round trip fare: $6.50.
Regarding SP P-10 "Pacific" # 2475... You were incorrect on your assumption. SP 2475 made a trip from San Jose to Tracy via Niles Canyon and Altamont Pass on those dates you mentioned..
December 31, 1957 and January 1, 1958. Sorry 'bout that, but SP 2475 was not involved during THAT time on the Monterey Branch!! The San Jose--Tracy trip is also shown on the same Greg Scholl video. For those that want video info that is!!
