Empire Builder is back to daily service, though late as usual:

For the better part of a year, BNSF has been rerouting certain manifest and stack symbols via MRL due to trackwork and congestion on the HiLine, and now the pressure has forced a few trains onto UP. I've heard that one such detour involved a Pasco-bound train which came west to Barstow, then north on UP via Las Vegas-SLC-Hinkle. BNSF has been known to detour northern tier trains down south through Barstow before, but the UP segment is a tad unusual.
