Truck Hunting

With all this talk about BART's truck hunting issues and cylindrical wheels....


I seem to remember Caltrain's Japanese made cab cars back in the SP days always felt like the front truck was hunting at speed. They also used to produce a weird rubbing and popping noise. This seemed to be fixed sometime after JPB and Amtrak took over the line.

I assume Caltrain or whomever just tuned the trucks. How does one go about tuning railcar trucks?????
