A normally accurate inside source in the bike trail industry (yeah, its an industry in its own right---or so it claims) states that there are already plans in the works to turn the POTB into a trail should it not be rebuilt. As with all "Green" things, they claim that tourism will more than replace the lost economic activity should the railroad served industries have to relocate or shut down. (They are producing studies as we speak to "prove" this). And that the trail will be able to pay for itself. Look out folks, competition for the line is about to begin, and its a whole lot easier to get transportation dollars to build bike trails than it is to rebuild railroads!! (Item, FEMA has been known to waive the 25% requirement to repair bike trails).
